Scouting spirit was on full display along the mid-Louth coastline this past Sunday as 7th Louth Coastal Scout Group proudly hosted an inter-group County Cub Hike, bringing together young scouts and leaders from across the Wee County.

Visiting packs from Blackrock and Ravensdale joined our home group for a scenic point-to-point coastal trek. The hike kicked off from Termonfeckin Beach carpark, guiding the cubs north along the shoreline and open coastal trails, before reaching a dramatic finish at Clogherhead Headland.

Conquering the Elements

True to Irish coastal weather, the day offered a little bit of everything. The hike began under brisk breezes and overcast skies, testing the resilience and trail discipline of the young scouts right from the opening strides.

Dressed in layers and high spirits, the cubs took the elements in stride. By the mid-point of the trek, the moody clouds broke, giving way to blue skies and brilliant sunshine that split the stones just as the group approached Clogherhead. The changing weather only added to the sense of accomplishment as the scouts navigated sandy stretches, seaside tracks, and the final climb to the Head.

Building Connections Across the Wee County

Beyond hiking skills, the day centred on camaraderie, shared adventures, and inter-group community. Cubs from 7th Louth Coastal, Blackrock and Ravensdale walked shoulder-to-shoulder, sharing trail snacks, trading scouting stories, and forging new friendships across pack boarders.

Events like the County Cub Hike highlight the core of Scouting Ireland’s mission: fostering teamwork, outdoor appreciation and youth leadership in a supportive, adventurous environment. Seeing scouts from different corners of County Louth work together and encourage one another up the trails made the day an undeniable success.

Gratitude for Leaders and Volunteers

A successful multi-group outing requires substantial coordination, safety planning, and community support, 7th Louth Coastal extends sincere gratitude to:

With tired boots, sun-kissed faces, and plenty of laughs to look back on, our Cubs returned home having proved that no matter the weather, good company makes every mile easy. 7th Louth Coastal looks forward to hitting the trail again soon with our neighbouring groups.
