The Second Annual Louth Scout County Raft Race took place on Saturday, 18th July 2026, at Port Beach, Clogherhead, bringing together Scouts from across County Louth for a fantastic day of teamwork, adventure and friendly competition.
This year’s event welcomed teams from 7th Louth Coastal Scout Group, 2nd Louth Blackrock Scout Group, and 8th Louth Slieve Foy Scout Group, all of whom took to the water after designing and building their own rafts. The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with excitement as participants showcased their creativity, communication skills and determination while navigating the course.
Despite some uncertainty in the forecast leading up to the event, the weather proved ideal. The rain stayed away, the sun made a welcome appearance, and the calm conditions provided the perfect setting for a memorable day on the water. Families, leaders and supporters gathered along the shoreline to cheer on the teams, creating a fantastic community atmosphere from start to finish.
The raft race highlighted many of the core values of Scouting, including teamwork, leadership, resilience and problem-solving. Every team demonstrated outstanding commitment and enthusiasm throughout the event, with Scouts working together to overcome challenges and encouraging one another every step of the way. The sportsmanship shown by all participants was a true reflection of the Scouting spirit.
After an exciting series of races, 7th Louth Coastal Scout Group emerged victorious, proudly taking home the Louth Scout County Raft Race Trophy. The win was the result of excellent teamwork, preparation and determination, making it a memorable achievement for everyone involved in the team.
A huge congratulations goes to 2nd Louth Blackrock Scout Group and 8th Louth Slieve Foy Scout Group, who also delivered outstanding performances throughout the day. Their enthusiasm, effort and positive attitude helped make the event an enjoyable experience for everyone in attendance.
Events such as the Louth Scout County Raft Race provide young people with invaluable opportunities to develop confidence, build lasting friendships and create memories that will stay with them for years to come. The continued success of the event is a testament to the hard work of the volunteer leaders, organisers and supporters who made the day possible.
Congratulations once again to every Scout, Scouter, volunteer and supporter who contributed to another hugely successful Louth Scout County Raft Race. We look forward to seeing the event return even bigger and better next year.
