It was perfect weather for hiking last weekend as Coastal Cubs and Scout Sections came together to hike Slieve Gullion starting at the upper carpark and hiking to the top of the cairn as well as looking into the shelter at the top and back again it was a great day for it and all in the spirit of the outdoors.

The Cubs and Scouts got the opportunity to work on their map and compass work at various points throughout the hike which builds their confidence in being able to lead excursions and treks in the mountains if and when at a later date the youth decide that they would like to get involved in group activities by becoming a Scouter themselves, but above all else it gives them the opportunity to show that they have learned over the last few weeks being put into practice on a practial excursion out in the mountains.

We were also joined on the hike by many of our new cubs who for many this was their first time out hiking a mountain and what a great bunch they were. Bravo to those that found it easier, next one won’t be 😉😉but well done for keeping pace and not putting pressure on the others!

We look forward to seeing you on the mountain trails soon.
