At last year’s Louth Scout County AGM, The Better Together Initiative was launched with great success. For those that don’t know what the Better Together Initiative is some context is provided below.

Purpose: To encourage the sharing of programme ideas between sections. Develop relations between sections. To challenge youth members and scouters to progress their scouting in partnership with others outside their group to integrate the ONE programme into event planning.
What you have to do?
Itβs simple! Each Colony/Pack/Troop/Unit/Crew will organise an event and invite another section to it. For this the youth members and scouters in attendance will receive one half of the Better Together special badge.
To receive the other half of the badge you will attend an event organised by another section.
Events will be section specific and have to be with sections outside your Group.
The section that organise the event will get the red half of the badge, and the section that are invited along will receive the white half of the badge.
Youth members will be involved in the Plan, Do, Review of each event in an age appropriate manner.
Members will wear badges above the right pocket of their uniform or over the Scouting Ireland Emblem for Beavers & Cubs. The badge is only to be worn for the duration of the βsection lifeβ of the youth member where it was achieved.
On March 21st 2026 8th Louth Slieve Foy and 7th Louth Coastal came together for a great days hike of the Slieve Foy loop, there were chats, banter and snacks had among the two groups and the weather was fantastic which helped too. It was a great bonding exercise for the two groups and Leaders involved on the day also. A great day out for all and we can’t wait to link up again for another activity soon.
This forms only one part of the Better Together Badge, 7th Louth Coastal Cubs Section will now have to organise a different activity and invite another group of the same section to achieve the other side of the badge.
Thanks to 8th Louth Slieve Foy for inviting us along on what was a brilliant day and thanks for organising the day out, we look forward to joining up with your cub section again in the near future.
